Elmore Court
Elmore Court – It’s the 1st January 2020 (happy new year everybody!) and I have a little bit of down time before wedding season kicks into top gear! I’m going to use that time to post a few images from a number of my favourite wedding venues around the Cotswolds.
What a better way to start than a few shots from the epic Elmore Court on the outskirts of Gloucester! I am incredibly honoured to have been a recommended supplier at Elmore since my first wedding there way back in 2014! It’s also a huge bonus that I live just a stones throw away!
As you can see from the drone shot I took in the summer of 2019, it is a magnificent building set in the beautiful Cotswold countryside. Anselm, who owns Elmore Court converted his home into a luxury wedding venue after inheriting the site over a decade ago. There are some fascinating television documentaries that can be found on YouTube covering his journey from globe trotting DJ to the head honcho of one of the leading wedding venues in the UK!

As soon as you approach the main gates and catch a glimpse of the building at the end of the long curved driveway it becomes fairly apparent that you’re about to walk into something a bit special!

As a photographer, the Great Hall (where the wedding ceremonies and blessings usually take place) is an absolute joy to work in. The light that penetrates the huge south facing stained glass window bathes the room in light. I’m pretty sure florists and stylists love this working space too; if you follow Elmore Court on Instagram you would have spotted some epic displays on show in this room. However, it looks pretty awesome if you did nothing to it too!!

If you think the great hall is a beauty then just wait until you see the Gillyflower. A purpose built party venue that once again is a photographers dream to shoot in! Now, I’m not sure whether Anselm and his team of architects had us togs in mind when designing the layout of this room, but the glass windows, skylights, daylight bulbs and LED lights on the dance floor make this area an absolute breeze to photograph; perfect for people like me who don’t use flash for things like speeches and guests chatting in between food courses.
Once again, you’ll see that stylists and florists such as Sorori, Amber Persia, Bespoke Flower, Lauren Grey and Jenny Fleur have an absolute field day when they’re let loose at Elmore!

The bridal prep rooms are once again just perfect for us lot with our cameras! The rooms in the coach house are nice and light, as is the Smoking Room which is another south facing room that is perfect for natural light shooting (do you see a recurring theme about the light?! Photographers love light!). I also love shooting in the Master Suite, the huge windows give a fantastic contrast against the dark wooden walls. I often see Harriet, Anna, Chris and Sasha working their magic in these rooms!

So, back to the Great Hall where all the action happens! I’ve shot many ceremonies here (nearly 40 at my last count!), sorry I’ve not been able to post them all. When time allows, I think I will do a separate blog post at a later date with all of my awesome Elmore couples!

When it comes to the portrait piccies, Elmore Court gives photographers a very pleasant headache, there are a ton of perfect locations and backdrops around this huge venue that could keep us photographing the ‘cuddly’ shots for HOURS! However, I realise couples probably do want to spend a bit of time with their guests on their wedding day 😉 so I’ve got a few of my fave spots to ensure the newlyweds are not traipsing around with me for too long but some lovely pics to show off to their mates on Facebook!

What I love about Elmore Court, is that just seems to attract the completely funky people who just love to party and have a bloody good laugh!

I’m not entirely sure what they put in the water at Elmore, but for whatever reason the Gillyflower dance floor is rarely empty! I’ve seen many high quality bands and DJ’s perform here. All of whom love the Funktion One sound system; back in my days of DJing (yes, I used to play house and trance music if you can believe that!) I would have loved to play on a system as crisp and clear as this one!
It also hosts the best mirror ball ever seen on a dancefloor! 😉

Oh, and every now and again you might just find some cheeky so and so has gone and parked a McLaren GT (or two!) on the dance floor in the Gilly! Adele is looking way too comfortable in the silver one! It definitely suits her though!

And last, but by no means least, are the team behind the scenes. A great bunch of hard working professionals who look after every guest that walks through the door of Elmore Court. They also like a good party and a daft photo 😉

The final seal of approval from my cheeky little monkey, Oli, who gave the Gillyflower dance floor the thumbs up at a recent wedding open day at Elmore! I think one he wants to follow in his dads footsteps and shoot some weddings here too! 😉
